He almost cut himself off when he was ripe, but he finally realized his own blooming. After more than half a century, when we have the opportunity to walk into the master’s shop and feel his paintings at close range, we hope to give a little peace and security to the mature career.

At present, the solo shop of the famous Italian artist giorgio morandi is being stopped at Jiushi Art Museum. This exhibition is not only the first large-scale Mo Landi solo shop held in Shanghai, but also the largest number of its 51 original works in the exhibition of works spread from Shanghai to Mo Landi. The exhibition was opened to the public on July 9 and withered until October 9 this year.

Giorgio morandi is best known for the color trail that was retained in his palette and called “Mo Landi color” by his predecessors. And he himself, whether an action artist or an action mortal, is undoubtedly introverted. Apart from a little experience in his youth, he never joined art groups or participated in art activities. He hardly left his hometown of Bologna (the only time he didn’t go to Zurich to watch Paul Cézanne’s paintings), and he never got married and lived a simple and self-destructive life. This exhibition is named after the artist “giorgio morandi” in order to better explain his artistic career, and it is also the best expression of Mo Landi’s pure artistry and artistic attainments.

Giorgio Morandi (July 20, 1890-June 18, 1964) was born in Bologna, a city in northern Italy. When he was young, he was admitted to Bologna Academy of Fine Arts. After graduation, he was in charge of the art teacher and taught printmaking courses for a long time. He experienced two quiet artistic experiments in the world and the 20th century, but he was always intoxicated with the daily dullness in his painting room. Whether it is flowers or bottles, the low saturation gray color can always give people a very gentle energy comfort. There is a concept in western critics that Mo Landi’s paintings are concerned with some small subjects, but reflect the situation of the whole universe.

This “giorgio morandi Shop” traces the complete artistic career of this Italian master in chronological order. The exhibition will be divided into three artistic stages: from early experiment to light-shadow interaction, mature stage: landscape painting and still life painting that are never out of date, and Mo Landi’s poetry in his later years, which is higher than giorgio morandi’s nearly 50-year creative career. The preface of all four kinds of pictures used by Mo Landi to create a mature career is not covered, including oil painting, watercolor painting, pencil/stone ink painting, etching printing, and the well-known creative themes such as still life, flowers and plants, and landscape writing. These creations in different times represent the artist’s different life experiences and creative essence, which shows his true and pure artistic familiarity.

From early experiments to light-shadow interaction

In his early years, Mo Landi’s artistic style had not been finalized, and his artistic maturity was continuous with his influence. During this period, he studied various sects, became proficient in drawing and printing martial arts, and made several short trips (he never took the initiative to leave Bologna and other places where he was deeply attached), and drew copies on the Internet along the way. Mo Landi’s earliest works, like two little-known early still life paintings in our department, failed to reflect that he had carefully gathered in the main artistic activities in the early 20th century.

Around 1920, together with De chirico and Kara, he began to think about metaphysics. At this stage, the main features of Mo Landi’s works are sharp edges, fine shapes and clear lines. In his works, some people are superficial, which set each other off with De chirico, and there are no bottles, cups, cans, dishes and other containers at first. These ordinary things will become the absolute supporting roles of Mo Landi’s works in the future.

Mature stage: landscape painting and still life painting that never go out of date

In the mature stage of still life painting, Mo Landi patiently and meticulously felt the sway of everyday trivial things, which seemed simple, but actually symbolized profound. In his works, such tricks as color change, light application and juxtaposition of forms are decomposed into infinite combinations. Although the bottle body is made of unremarkable opaque glass, there is no gentle consensus in Mo Landi’s works, which is as delicate and clear as Mozart’s glass piano music.

In the middle of his creative career, Mo Landi stopped composing pictures of goods in the studio, and also bent his pen to the quiet summer natural scenery: both ordinary goods and natural scenery.

Mo Landi’s poetry in his later years

After the end of the Second Harmony, Mo Landi remained faithful to the two long-standing centers in his creation: in the departmental works, he stopped composing the things that are not ripe; In other works, he glanced out of the window at his village house in griza or his residence in Fondacha Street in Bologna. The nameless patio he saw in the city was sandwiched between the high walls of the surrounding Hengyu, which was quiet and noisy.

Mo Landi frequently waved Zhu for this place’s scenery, and his paintings were simple and warm, shaking people’s feelings. Over time, his paintings became narrower and narrower, and sometimes he even left a small area in the middle of the painting cloth to spread the visual threshold of the image. Similar techniques, in fact, Mo Landi has already been used for printmaking.

In Mo Landi’s later works, the most recognizable feature is the brand-new arrangement of goods: in the early years, bottles and cans were put aside side by side and close to each other; By this time, Mo Landi collected the artifacts more closely in the middle of the painting cloth, making its factors dense and integrated.

Mo Landi’s studio is located in Fondaza Street, and he died of illness in his apartment in Bologna in 1964. This hut is silent and dim, and it is full of “finished old things”. However, it is here that the small canvas is painted with emotion and reality, and the universal price of goods can be revived under the influence of art. It is here that Mo Landi finally shows the essence of no artist: an eternal model.

Mo Landi once said, “Don’t look at many things, but look carefully at what you see. A person can travel around the world, but he can also see nothing. ” He also said: “I am a still-life painter in quality, and my works reveal a sense of quietness and privacy. These two emotions are exactly what I always value most.” This artist, who has lived a self-cut-off state since his graduation, thinks that the “open” self-condition is the most real.

Balthus, a close friend, once commented: “Mo Landi is undoubtedly the closest European painter to China. He saved Han Zhu to the extreme. His drawings are different, which is consistent with China’s art in concept. He is not satisfied with the world he hopes to see, but uses the topic to express his feelings. “
